Taso’s mortal remains laid to rest

A native of Taba village under Damin circle of remote Kurung Kumey district, Taso had joined the force on May 11, 1987 and served in different parts of the country. His last posting place was Gorakhpur, Khan said, adding he died in a hospital at Lucknow.

The bandhs are being called in protest against the state government’s alleged ‘indifferent attitude’ and failure to respond to the demand for exclusion of Adi lands from the proposed Lower Siang district.
Meanwhile, East Siang district ABK general secretary Tajing Taki said that the state government’s apathy towards the demand raised by various Adi organizations is causing a great deal of sensation among the community people.
“The ABK and other Adi organizations have repeatedly moved the state government to exclude Adi land from the new district. We would resort to a more vigorous agitation in case our demands went unheard for long time,” Taki said.

Addressing the World Tourism Day celebration at Biiri, Ziro, where the Festival of Music is being held, Taki said that Mother Nature has bestowed Ziro with all that are required to satisfy the needs of the tourists. And, that is why Ziro has now become one of the most sought after tourist destinations in the state, he said. The recent discovery of many rare and critically endangered species of bird and butterfly made Ziro a favourite destination for butterfly and bird enthusiasts, he said and appealed to the people protect and preserve wildlife.
Koj Mama, President Arunachal Pradesh Birding Club briefly highlighted the findings of various bird species in Ziro. He has mentioned about highly endangered species of bird like Wardtrogan which is found in Ziro. The bird has already attracted many tourists in the valley.

is no longer in vogue and relevant. Today many youth all the world over are seriously
taking sports as a career. In fact, the same parents who used to prevent their children
from playing games and sports are encouraging them to take sports seriously. This
sudden change of mindset in the parents has come about thanks to international sports
persons like Sachin Tendulkar, PT Usha, Mary Kom, Sania Mirza, Baichung Bhutia and
many others who are earning in millions and are today, youth icons of the country
including the small towns and villages. I do not have statistics to show here but
I dare say that in Arunachal Pradesh, 40% of the youth are alcoholics, 10% of them
are opium and drug addicts, 30% are school drop-
If we talk about development of sports or for that matter, realization of the need
to give a fillip to sports in the state by the planners and the WHO’S WHO of the
state is at a nascent stage. But thanks to some naturally gifted and talented young
Arunachalees, our state has at long last found a spot in the sporting map of the
country, especially in badminton, weightlifting, mountaineering, arm wrestling, karate,
taekwondo etc. Our state government should give more thrust to sports that require
endurance like marathon, running, mountaineering, boxing, football, badminton, weightlifting,
archery, karate, taekwondo etc because our youth have inherent strength and the
much needed endurance by virtue of having lived on the hilltops where they have to
climb. The youth are naturally trained to face hardships. They are also used to high
altitude scenario due to which the young mountain climbers are so successful. Incidentally,
our Arunachalees are also naturally flexible and agile which is a hallmark of a successful
sports person. These agility and flexibility among our youth may be because of the
difficult terrains they have to manoeuvre everyday and also because of their adeptness
in dancing during the numerous festivals they celebrate. Cricket can be accorded
less weight age because it needs huge infrastructure which our government may not
be able to provide. Instead of cricket more importance may be given to indoor games.
The Wancho youth of Longding district can be roped in to train them in athletics,
boxing, weightlifting and mountaineering. They are born athletes and only honing
their inherent skills is required. Many Wancho youth are well known boxers and athletes
in different army regiments. More professional and reputed coaches, physiotherapists,
dieticians and sports physicians may be employed to look after the needs of the sports
persons in order to shape them into truly sports men and women of international standard.
Today, all the nations take great pride in producing great sports persons because
they bring laurels for their nations in prestigious sports meet like the Olympic.
The achievers are given great honour and are made sporting ambassadors. Sadly, achievement
of sporting glory by our sports persons in India leaves a lot to be desired. A nation
of billions, India gets beaten by non-
There are no two opinions about the fact that youth are a crucial segment of society.
They are the basis for future development including sports. The youth are the social
actors of change and can serve as a pressure group to lobby governments in defining
their priorities. Sports definitely can be one of their top priorities and they should
not spare any effort to promote sports in the state. Let us not forget that youth
are not only the leaders of tomorrow, but the partners of today. As always, it is
youth’s task to make history in the future and society’s obligation to provide with
sufficient resources and an honest basis for hope in carrying out this task. The
former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan underlined the role of youth as actors who
have real expertise complimentary to that of academic and researchers. It is important
to strive towards the involvement of youth as active citizens. Hence, our state government
should leave no stone unturned to provide all the requisite facilities to the youth
of the state to facilitate sports to flourish in the state. The youth are our future
and our future will be safe and secure only if our youth are engaged gainfully to
contribute their mite towards building Arunachal Pradesh strong, vibrant and self-
Awareness meeting on sanitation and hygiene
PASIGHAT, Sept 27: A meeting of the Empowered Standing Committee of Pasighat Municipal Council was held yesterday under the chairmanship of the Chief Councilor, PMC, at the council hall of PMC.
It was attended by the officers/officials of PMC and members of the Ward Committees. Highlighting the purpose of the meeting, Denong Tamuk, Chief Councillor informed that the meeting was to disseminate the importance of maintaining general hygiene and cleanliness of the township area to the public and discussion on the official launch of the first phase of the town cleanliness drive with the theme “Clean & Green Pasighat” which shall starts from the 2nd of the October 2014 on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti to coincide with the Swachch Bharat Abhiyan.

DBC observes NSS Initiation Day
ITANAGAR, Sept 27: Don Bosco College, Jollang here observed National Service Scheme (NSS) Initiation Day at college auditorium today.
The programme started by hoisting of National flag and pledging for service to the society.
Participating in the programme Dr. V N Sharma, State Liaison Office, GoAP interacted with the students and encouraged them to change their attitude and come forward for the betterment of the society and nation as a whole.

Personnel accused of manhandling, police denies
ITANAGAR, Sept 27: The Kuri Dajum Olung (KDO), a clan based social organization, has alleged that IRBN personnel had manhandled one of its clan members Tanyi Taga, an APST head mechanic on 18th September last.
According to FIR lodged with Pasighat Police Station by wife of victim, it alleged that IRBN personnel came to victim’s resident in search of biker claiming that biker almost ran them over. Further it said that Taga was summoned to PS and later sent him to the hospital. In the meanwhile, IRBN personnel mercilessly beaten up Taga and his entire family when they about to leave for the hospital.
The clan members have demanded for magisterial inquiry against the unruly personnel. It also demanded the immediate suspension of the police personnel involved in the case. When contacted Pasighat police has denied the allegation of manhandling, however it confirmed that an FIR has been lodged with it and the matter is under investigation.
Org seeks DC’s intervention for school boundary demarcation
ITANAGAR, Sept 27: All Kurung Kumey District Youth Organization (AKKDYO) has sought the intervention of the deputy commissioner of the district to properly demarcate the school boundary in the district which are allegedly encroached by the people.

Cleanliness drives launched in Tawang
ITANAGAR, Sept 27: Tawang Health Department today launched ‘Swachch Bharat Abhiyan’ in the district by conducting a cleanliness drive in and around the District Hospital premises.
All the medical officers, staff, health workers, general public and representatives from various NGOs actively took part in the cleanliness drive.
District Medical Officer Dr Wangdi Lama briefed about the motive behind the ‘Swachch Bharat Abhiyan’.
“The health department has to shoulder the responsibilities and lead through examples,” he said while urging them to maintain cleanliness during the forthcoming festivals.

DAPORIJO, Sept 27: A mass social service was conducted at Daporijo Township by the Villages of Daporijo Township Area Welfare Association, where more than 100 people participated.
The blocked drains from Gandhi Market to Gensi Kro via GREF office were cleared during the social service.
An awareness programme was also organized in the sideline of the social service to make the public aware about the importance of keeping their surrounding areas neat and clean to avoid some common diseases.
Public voluntarily provided their earth movers/cutters and dumpers/tippers for the social service.

ITANAGAR, Sept 27: The Don Bosco College Bicentenary Basketball Tournament -
The Principal Dr. Fr. Nicholas declared the tournament open at the Don Bosco College, Jollang complex.
The inaugural match was played between the male teaching staff and last year’s runners up Bosco Warriors and the later (Bosco Warriors) won the match. All the college students and staff witnessed the inaugural match.
However, the first match of the tournament was played between North East Brothers and Bosco Titans. The Bosco Titans won the match by 1 point.

Society conducts second phase of social service
AALO, Sept 27: A mass social service organized by All Ato Paktu Ao Welfare Society and participated by representatives of District Administration, Army, Police, public, Pushi Bango Welfare Society and Govt. departments was held today at Sipu Bridge Point.
The drain from Sipu Colony to Sipu River on the right side of entrance to Aalo town, which remained blocked through out the year leading water logging in the entry point of the road was completely cleared. The surroundings jungles, unwanted structures, debris etc were completely removed from the area and potholes on the road were also filled up.
The monthly social service is aimed at generating a sense of cleanliness, beautification and hygienic living among the dwellers of Aalo township.
